I have heard of those who want their baptism annulled, but I have never seen the society grant their wishes.

Max Hatton's 1960s study into the WTS chronology
by Doug Mason inin the early 1960s, a jehovah's witness named max hatton was living and working in albany, a town on the southern coast of western australia.
when he was challenged by sda geoff rogerson, who lived in the nearby township of denmark, about the watchtower society's neo-babylonian chronology, max investigated geoff's claims.. after four years of intensive research, max resigned his position as a "servant in the organisation".. max documented the result of his research, and his 77-page study is remarkable and deserves to be widely known.
it is quite likely that the copies max and i have are two of very few copies that now exist.

Thanks, Doug. Looks really interesting. It will take some time to sort through.

The Little Things
by KW13 inwhat really frustrates me, is that so many witnesses get caught up in huge worldwide events such as disasters, wars e.t.c that they fail to see that man isn't inheritantly bad, and that there are good individuals in this world who aren't part of the watchtower clique.
i find myself feeling pity for the witnesses, who wake up to a world on edge rather than a day that could potentially be their best.
many of them have ceased to try in their lives, unwilling to pursue education and even a family because they are waiting for their future which is forever just around the corner.

The little things are what life is made up of. The person that becomes a jw starts out with hope of something better, but they are slowly beat down.
The meetings were not a source of encouragement to me before I quit. They tended to raise my anxiety level by dwelling on negative things.
You are not doing enough. The signs show destruction is imminent. Be wary of others, even in the congregation. Constant reminders of ways that God destroyed people in the old testament.
I so enjoy not being in that atmosphere anymore. I like being open and friendly to others without an agenda.

The dangers of religious belief - Praying man let his daughter die
by Simon inpraying man let his daughter diedale neumann faces up to 25 years in prisona us jury has found a man guilty of killing his sick 11-year-old daughter by praying for her recovery rather than seeking medical care.. the man, dale neumann, told a court in the state of wisconsin he believed god could heal his daughter.. she died of a treatable disease - undiagnosed diabetes - at home in rural wisconsin in march last year, as people surrounded her and prayed.. neumann's wife, leilani neumann, was convicted earlier this year.. the couple, who were both convicted of second-degree reckless homicide, face up to 25 years in prison when they are sentenced in october.. a lawyer representing dale neumann said he would appeal.. 'faith healing'.
during the trial, medical experts told the court that neumann's daughter could have survived if she had received treatment, including insulin and fluids, before she stopped breathing.. on thursday neumann, who is 47 and studied in the past to be a pentecostal minister, said he thought god would heal his daughter.. "if i go to the doctor, i am putting the doctor before god," he said.
"i am not believing what he said he would do.".

"Selfish act of faith." Interesting way to put it.
I can have a lawyer, but you can't have a doctor. I wonder if he would have noticed how sick HE was and went to the hospital if it was him dying?

6000 / 7000- Numbers Without a Scripture
by OnTheWayOut infreddy franz working as the main writer/oracle under the knorr administration, came up with these very magic numbers.
he said that mankind would be 6000 years old in 1975, despite all scientific evidence to the contrary.
more importantly- somehow, he made people believe that 6000 was a magical number, necessitating the destruction of more than 99% of mankind that year even without a single scripture in his new bible (which he wrote).. oh, you may say there's scriptures that say 1000 years is as a day to god, but we aren't talking about a day or 1000 years.

I caught part of a show on the Millerites the other day. If I wouldn't have known better, I would have thought it was discussing the early Bible Students under Russell.
It seems when one date fails, they dream up another one. Freddy made those numbers up to keep it all going.
Don't forget the reasoning used when 1975 failed. They said the difference between the creation of Adam and Eve was not counted into the formula.
I often wonder if those who made these dates up really believed they were from God?

Walk Away Quietly, Go Out with a Bang, Protest, Disappear- What's Best?
by OnTheWayOut inthere are many different things that each of us deal with, but the biggest reasons most come here is for support in their own lives and in dealing with the jw's in their lives.
so many are lurking or new here, so maybe they need to hear why some of you chose the path you chose.. for each of us, the decisions on how to leave the wt are our own.
i fast-faded and don't look over my shoulder worrying about the elders trying to trap me because my wife doesn't spy for them.

I faded rather quickly. I don't disassociate because I have grown kids still in who I believe would shun me. I want to still have some influence on them. I want to show them I am the same person in or out of the borg.
I hope that gives them something to think about.
I still see jws from time to time. Most talk to me, but with their guard up.
I like what LC said, that jws are "always rebels with a cause." I think this is part of what attracts some to this cult. I joined as a very young adult and I was always a rebel with a cause before I joined.
I guess I didn't really change much when I joined. Good insight, LC.

Only JW "adults" getting baptized in France?
by Gayle intens of thousands of jehovah's witnesses meet in france(afp) 43 minutes ago.
paris tens of thousands of jehovah's witnesses gathered on saturday in cities across france for an annual international gathering, the religious movement said.. about 150,000 flocked to meetings with the main gathering in villepinte, in the paris region, attracting 50,000 followers.. several hundred jehovah's witnesses were baptised by being immersed in water during the event, which lasts the whole weekend.. those baptised were adults, following the example of christ.. jehovah's witnesses consider themselves the heirs of a primitive form of christianity.. their beliefs are strongly based on the text of the bible and they consider modern christian churches to have deviated from the book's true teachings.. followers reject the ideas of modern evolutionary theory and refuse blood transfusions.. they are perhaps best known for preaching on doorsteps, where they offer religious literature and attempt to convert people.. the movement emerged towards the end of the 19th century in the united states and arrived in france in 1906.. there are more than seven million jehovah's witnesses worldwide and around 150,000 in france.. the group's status varies from country to country.
they are given the same recognition as mainstream religions in austria and germany but are classed as a "recognised cult" in denmark.. in france, some of their branches have the status of "religious association" but the movement was also mentioned in a 1995 parliamentary report on sects.. google_ad_section_end(name=article) copyright 2009 afp.

I remember some elders using the account of Jesus at the temple at the age of twelve as an example of an "accountable" age. I saw some as young as nine get baptized.
I rather doubt this article means adults in the sense of being an adult of 18-21 years. No matter what age one makes a decision, they should have the right to change their views as they see things differently.
I doubt very many of those in their older years see things as they did at 21.

I am even more disturbed by his mother having control over these children because she let her own children be abused. How can a mother stand by and not do something?
Will she allow these children to be exploited too?

Whistleblower Speaks Out On What Really Happens in US Healthcare
by sammielee24 infor those of you in other countries - how many times have you seen thousands of your own countrymen lying outside in a field waiting for health care?
sammieswife.. whistleblower tells of america's hidden nightmare for its sick poorwhen an insurance firm boss saw a field hospital for the poor in virginia, he knew he had to speak out.
here, he tells paul harris of his fears for obama's bid to bring about radical change.

Things are not looking too good for healthcare reform. The fear machine is in full motion.
I think Obama needs to get into more detail about the particulars of a government option. He has to combat the fear that many people are feeling about the changes.
Until taking care of people is the driving force of healthcare, instead of profit, we are sunk. Healthcare workers can still make a good living.
